2020 Vingence

2020 Vingence

Deep bright purple hue. Very pleasing aromas of spiced plum jelly and gun powder. Reductive aromas mingle with a heavy hand of oak, nothing is out of balance here. Secondary aromas are of sweet tangy raspberry with a hint of dense black licorice. Medium tannins approach a meaty savoriness, the best the wine has to offer. A modicum of black tone minerality lurks in the background. The body is smooth and flush, revealing that it has many more years left in it. The wine still has a heavy amount of aging yet to do but is broadly approachable immediately. Once again massive on the sip but mellow enough to fuel the desire to be consumed young. Lots of yeast and dough aromas intermingle with dried cocoa powder and dark fruit as the wine opens. Wet rachis of the sea and oyster rocks contribute to the great depths of flavor and bouquet of this wine.

Jancis Robinson Review: 16/20 “Tasted blind. Deep opaque purple with a fuchsia rim. Savoury blackberry and pepper jam with molasses and bramble. Sweet black fruit on the palate, somewhat dried and with a thick, oily (glycerol) texture. High, grippy, gum-climbing tannin that leaves one’s mouth feeling a bit sticky. Balanced acid and a chewy, ripe, fruit-driven finish. A very large, muscular, ripe wine.”
